ABSTRACT

The study examined the relationship between class size and effective teachers class management in Oredo Local Government Areal of Edo state.  To carry out the research, three (3) research questions were raised and turned into hypothesis to guide the study.

The study was a descriptive research that employed the ex-post-facto research design. The study population consisted of one-hundred (100) teachers and students drawn from four schools using random selection method. The questionnaire consisted of twenty (20) items that were validated by my supervisor and two other experts in the department. The structure questionnaire was titled: class size and effective teachers’ class management (CSETCMQ) was used for data collection. The two hypotheses formulated were tested using Pearson product-moment correlation method of data analysis. The entire two (2) hypothesis generated were rejected.

Te findings indicated that firstly, there was a significant relationship between class size and effective teacher’s class management. Secondly, there was a significant relationship between effective teacher’s class management and grade levels. It was thus recommended that policy makers should formulate policies that will ensure that class room population do not exceed thirty (3) student at the senior secondary level. Parent teacher Association (PTA), Philanthropists and other charitable organizations should complement the efforts of government in building more classrooms with up to date facilities that would aid the teaching learning process. The schools should be dependent on available space and facilities when enrolling student to avoid problems associated with large class sizes.
